Survivor Granola

JJ and I got married over three years ago. Since then, I've packed on some pounds. Basically, I'm just so content that it's been hard to pay attention to my weight. But for the last year, it's been really bugging me, I just haven't had the energy to deal with it (to be fair to myself, I also went off some medication that caused me to put a chunk of it on). So, I'm back at Weight Watchers. I've been really successful so far- which I always am when I truly follow the plan. Crazy how that works, eh?

My big eating problem is snacking. JJ and I like to eat dinner a little on the late side, most of the time 7:00 or later. Because I get off work at 3:30, I have quite a few hours after I get home before we eat dinner and I always graze and munch and snack my way to dinner. I really feel helpless sometimes; nothing satisfies.

My awesome JJ found the solution. He told me to try granola for breakfast. I always eat breakfast, but I usually have a piece of toast or yogurt because I don't want to use more than three of my precious points for the day. Using SIX points for granola in the morning seemed ridiculous to me. But he was sure if I had something really filling with protein and whole grains, it would stick with me and help me throughout the whole day.

Man, was he ever right. I eat a half cup of Bear Naked Vanilla Granola, with just enough soy milk to get it damp. It's 6 points and I barely ever get hungry the rest of the day. I have no idea how or why it works, it just does! And a b0nus is that Bear Naked is the company started by Brendan on this season of Survivor, so I call it my Survivor Granola, because it's helping me survive my weight loss journey.

A Couple Nights to Myself

Every Monday night, JJ takes a class and tonight he is going to the Blazers' playoff game with Corban, so I've got two nights in a row all to myself. What in the world am I going to do with myself?

Can You Believe...

...this kid is only 9 days old? He's so big and alert!

Easter 2009

Today we hosted our first holiday in our house. We've been here almost three years and while we've had lots of dinner parties, no major holidays have been celebrated here. Our house is a little small, so we did an intimate Easter, with only JJ's dad and stepmom, my folks, AJ and Maryanne and Porter. JJ even had the fun idea to do a little Easter basket for 9 day old Porter. We took out some of our furniture and set up a big table in the living room. It worked perfectly and I'm so glad we did it because now we realize that we can even fit 10 if we buy a little larger table- which is a perfect size for a dinner party if you ask me. Below are some pictures. Hope your day was enjoyable as well.

Easter Advice

Don't open the Easter candy until Easter day or it will get eaten.

I'm a Bad Blogger!

Facebook has completely ruined me for blogging. I still like reading other people's blogs, but I get such instant and immediate feedback on Facebook, that I find myself posting everything there. I'm going to try to get going again on the blog though, because I know everyone doesn't do Facebook.

Pictures of Porter

The DeBacker fam has spent a lot of time at the hospital over the last few days, enjoying Porter. Yesterday, JJ and I got to babysit for the first time. Maryanne needs to walk the halls every couple of hours while she's recovering from her surgery and the baby can't leave the room. Since we were there last night, AJ was able to go with her and JJ and I watched Porter. He's a doll, let me tell you. We all love him already.

Porter Everett John DeBacker

I have a new nephew. He's a doll. I posted all the details at Maryanne and AJ's blog if you'd like to know how it went and see a picture.
